Happy World Water Day!
Water is essential to life—and so is education about its importance! At CODE, we believe that drama and dance can be powerful tools for exploring environmental issues, including water conservation and sustainability.
Looking for ways to bring these vital topics into your classroom? Check out our curriculum-aligned resources that use drama and movement to engage students in critical conversations about water, climate change, and global responsibility.
If Water Could Talk Dance / Senior - Members Only
Students will explore the topic of water at the local, national, and global levels. This three-part compositional project is rooted in research and building awareness about local, Indigenous (on-reserve), and global water issues, each building upon and connecting to each other. Multiple media viewings, a poster or podcast awareness campaign, and photography from around the world on the topic of water serves as the impetus for inquiry, creation, and collaboration.
Life Cycles of the Natural World // Cycles de vie du monde naturel - Dance, Drama / Primary - Public
A number of science expectations in the primary grades explore the concept of cycles, as found within the natural world. Students will use the elements of dance and elements of drama as well as basic choreographic forms and various drama conventions to help them represent these science concepts. Students will be challenged to generate and explore a variety of ideas and concepts linked to life cycles. They will deepen their critical thinking skills as they experiment with, and find ways to represent these natural changes through movement and dramatic experiences. As this unit and these lessons are designed as a student inquiry, a strong emphasis is placed on the role of student questioning.
Financial Literacy and the Environment // La littératie financière et l'environnement Dance / Junior - Public
Students will investigate the relationship between natural resources in the Canadian provinces and the economy. In these lessons, they will consider the overuse of natural resources and discover the impacts humans can have on the natural environment. Students will also learn what happens to the economy of an area that relies on a natural resource, once that resource has been depleted. They will discover the importance of protecting the natural environment and learn about initiatives to protect the environment in various Canadian communities. Created in 2010 for 2009 Ontario Curriculum Support.
