TRACK C - SECONDARY DRAMA

In a thrilling day of keynote panel talks, workshops, performances and networking, secondary drama teachers will get the opportunity to develop tools that they can bring back to their students. As we get the chance to work with and learn from some of the GTA’s most exciting artists and educators, CODE in the 6ix will leave you inspired, motivated and wanting to learn more.

Bringing All Your Truth - Bilal Baig

Bringing All Your Truth is a workshop that is focused on creating work for the theatre guided by your individual experiences within an ensemble. We will find ways to generate content through physical exploration, improvised collaborations and journal writing. The primary goal of this workshop is to create work that is deeply grounded in and born out of individual truth (bringing all your identities into the room is strongly encouraged!). We will create content for ourselves in a group setting and share our work and creative voices among one another. In this workshop, we will play some ensemble-building games, create physical stories, improvise group scenes and spend some time writing and developing your authentic, individual, exciting voice as an artist!

Chekov Acting Technique - Arthur Burrows

Participants have a chance to learn the fundamentals of teaching the Michael Chekhov acting technique to high school students. This technique is useful for getting students to move beyond the everyday in their voice and movement onstage and for teaching students how to develop specific intention behind each word or gesture.

The workshop will cover centres, The Four Brothers, qualities of movement, and psychological gesture. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the elements of the technique as well as learn how they might be taught as a unit and applied to student acting.

Connections will be drawn between the technique and other approaches to acting so that the technique can become a seamless part of teachers’ existing practice.

Participants will also receive a list of resources to further their learning in the technique. 

I Speak Myself Into Existence - Randell Adjei

This self reflective and powerful workshop will focus on the use of language in the stories we tell ourselves and the stories we tell one another. We will delve into the complexities of our beings through the written word and bring them from page to stage. We will also work briefly on performance psychology and performance preparation.
