Overview

Pre-requisite Knowledge

Students should be familiar with the idea that nobody interrupts anyone else; that the drama space is a safe space, etc…

Focus

These activities are for building trust, bringing down inhibitions, deepening concentration and stimulating the imagination. Primarily they are fun to do and thus highly motivating.

Materials and Resources

Any open space where children can hear each other speak, see each other comfortably and not disturb or be disturbed by others.

Special Notes

  • These games are all intended to build empathy and inclusiveness into the classroom experience as all well as a way of creating a sense of community..
  • It may be worthwhile to review some basic common sense drama rules before playing (e.g., be prepared to stop when the teacher needs your attention, etc….)
  • Games may or may not include the option to ‘pass.’  Students who are generally confident and capable of taking risks will probably not need to pass; however, this is a serious issue for some children, and caution may be worthwhile!
